From red-bottoms (shoes) designer, Charles Jourdan, comes this well-loved belt circa 1980's. This incredible belt features a metal-woven brocade fabric body, with ornate paisley & flower design. The metallic threading in the brocade has patina in certain areas, giving it a lustrous effect that evolves from gold tone to coppery. The back of this base appears to be faux leather and I believe that the buckle itself was a modification. Why? because the prong on the buckle doesn't fit the original set of eyelets, it appears that the set of two eyelets was added on at some point. I also believe that the buckle itself may be as old as Victorian -it has a very Victorian design and I've seen these cut steel style pieces from that age. This supposedly newly-added buckle was expertly secured to the belt, and again, the prongs will only fit into the last two (larger sizing) eyelet holes.Weight is actually pretty light! Marked 'Charles Jourdan, Parallele, made in France, size 80'. Overall condition is very good to good with some obvious patina to metal, aforementioned modification, and there is some surface chipping to the lining or back of belt (but not currently chipping! I can run my fingers along the back side of belt and almost no black bits come off!) -please review photographs for full details. Still an amazing, vintage piece from a coveted designer!!
