Magnificent pair of vintage Isabel Canovas earrings from the 1980s. Half hoops in coral-colored resin with gold-tone metal scrollwork.

Isabel was born in Paris in 1945. Her Spanish father, Blas Canovas, was a couture textile designer. Her career began as a designer for Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton from the early 1970s to the 1980s. In 1982, she opened her own luxury accessories company with three locations in Paris, New York, and Madrid. For ten years, she created limited-edition fashion accessories that set a new standard and helped shape European fashion, particularly costume jewelry. Her designs were whimsical, elaborate, and crafted with the finest materials France had to offer. A true visionary, Isabel garnered attention from Vogue, Figaro Madame, and The New York Times Magazine. Her groundbreaking collections drew inspiration from her travels (Africa, Russia, Spain, and Venice) and also incorporated animals, fruits and vegetables, flowers, and the circus. Sadly, after building an international clientele over ten years, Isabel closed her boutiques in the early 1990s. Her vision and talent paved the way for other designers such as Maud Frizon, Paloma Picasso, Frances Patiky Stein, and Dominique Aurientis. Today, her pieces are highly collectible due to their rarity, quality, and craftsmanship. A bold French look that makes French women stand out.

Ses créations étaient fantaisistes, élaborées et construites avec les meilleurs matériaux que la France avait à offrir. Véritable visionnaire, Isabel a attiré l'attention de Vogue, Figaro Madame et du New York Times Magazine. Ses collections révolutionnaires s'inspirent de ses voyages (Afrique, Russie, Espagne et Venise) et intègrent également des animaux, des fruits et légumes, des fleurs et le cirque.
